Click here to download MacBuntu OS Y Wallpapers (via NoobsLab). Once downloaded, extract these to pictures directory. You can also download wallpapers from various other sources.

MacBuntu OS Y Theme, Icons and cursors

Enter the following commands in Terminal to download and install MacBuntu OS Y themes, MacBuntu OS Y icons and MacBuntu OS Y cursors:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/themes
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mbuntu-y-ithemes-v5
sudo apt-get install mbuntu-y-icons-v5

Once installed, you can select and activate the MacBuntu OS Y theme, icons and mac cursor uidng Ubuntu tweak tool/Gnome tweak tool. Run the following commands to install Ubuntu Tweak or Gnome Tweak tool:

sudo apt-get install unity-tweak-tool
sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool

If you want to Uninstall MacBuntu OS Y themes, icons and cursors, run the following Terminal commands:

cd /usr/share/icons/mac-cursors && sudo ./uninstall-mac-cursors.sh
sudo apt-get remove mbuntu-y-icons-v5 mbuntu-y-ithemes-v5

Slingscold (Alternative to Launchpad)

Open Terminal and run the following commands to install Slingscold Launcher/Launchpad in Ubuntu:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/apps
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install slingscold

Once insatlled, navigate to /usr/share/applications/ directory and drag and drop the slingscold icon on docky (see below to install Docky).

Docky

Install Docky launcher using the following commands:

sudo apt-get install docky

Now install Mac theme for Docky:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/themes
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mbuntu-y-docky-skins-v5

If you wish to uninstall and remove Docky themes, run:

sudo apt-get autoremove docky mbuntu-y-docky-skins-v5

Once installed, to pin an application to Dock, just open the application and right click on app icon and then select ‘Pin to dock’.

Mutate Spotlight

Mutate Spotlight is a wonderful alternative to Mac Spotlight. To install Spotlight, run the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/apps
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mutate

Once installed, open Mutate from Menu/Dash. You can use CTRL+D shortcut key to activate mutate.

Install and Set Themes & Icons For Unity Desktop

For Unity Desktop, run the following commands:

cd && wget -O config.sh http://drive.noobslab.com/data/Mac-15.04/config.sh
chmod +x config.sh;./config.sh

To uninstall and revert back to default Unity settings, enter the following commands:

cd && wget -O unconfig.sh http://drive.noobslab.com/data/Mac-15.04/unconfig.sh
chmod +x unconfig.sh;./unconfig.sh

Replace ‘Ubuntu Desktop’ Text With ‘Mac’ on Ubuntu Panel Bar

Open Terminal and run the following commands to change ‘Ubuntu Desktop’ text to ‘Mac’ on the Ubuntu panel:

cd && wget -O Mac.po http://drive.noobslab.com/data/Mac-15.04/change-name-on-panel/mac.po
cd /usr/share/locale/en/LC_MESSAGES; sudo msgfmt -o unity.mo ~/Mac.po;rm ~/Mac.po;cd

If you want to revert back to ‘Ubuntu Desktop’ text, run:

cd && wget -O Ubuntu.po http://drive.noobslab.com/data/Mac-15.04/change-name-on-panel/ubuntu.po
cd /usr/share/locale/en/LC_MESSAGES; sudo msgfmt -o unity.mo ~/Ubuntu.po;rm ~/Ubuntu.po;cd

Install Apple Logo in Ubuntu Launcher

Run the following commands to install Apple Logo:

wget -O launcher_bfb.png http://drive.noobslab.com/data/Mac-15.04/launcher-logo/apple/launcher_bfb.png
sudo mv launcher_bfb.png /usr/share/unity/icons/

To revert to Ubuntu logo, enter following commands in Terminal:

wget -O launcher_bfb.png http://drive.noobslab.com/data/Mac-15.04/launcher-logo/ubuntu/launcher_bfb.png
sudo mv launcher_bfb.png /usr/share/unity/icons/

Some Additional Settings

You can also install Monochrome icons for Libreoffice on Ubuntu, to do so enter the following commands:

sudo apt-get install libreoffice-style-sifr

Once installed, open LibreOffice and go to menu, select “Tools” > “Options” > “LibreOffice” > “View” and then select “Sifr” under “Icon size and style”.

Install Mac Fonts and MacBuntu theme for LightDM Webkit Greeter

Open Terminal and run the following commands to install Mac Fonts:

wget -O mac-fonts.zip http://drive.noobslab.com/data/Mac-15.04/macfonts.zip
sudo unzip mac-fonts.zip -d /usr/share/fonts; rm mac-fonts.zip
sudo fc-cache -f -v

Once installed, change fonts from Unity-Tweak-Tool or Gnome-Tweak-Tool. You can also use Ubuntu Tweak Tool to change fonts and themes.

To install Mac LightDM-webkit theme, run the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/themes
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mbuntu-y-lightdm-v5

Once installed, please retart the system to apply changes.

To revert back to the defualt LightDM, run the following commands:

sudo apt-get remove mbuntu-y-lightdm-v5
