Top Eleven 2017 (iOS/Android) tips and tricks guide: Here's how to build the perfect team, choose the best possible formation and tactics, organise an ideal training regime, manage your finance and more in Top Eleven 2017, the latest football management mobile game for iPhones and Android phones.
Top Eleven 2017 Tips: Personalise your team
At the start of Top Eleven 2017, you’ll be given a default club to manage (unless you import one from a previous game). You'll have the chance to pick your club’s name, country and city, so think carefully. And don't choose anything too obscene, in case your mum spots it in your Facebook posts.
You can also rename your club's stadium by heading to the Ground section of Top Eleven 2017. Scroll down to the 'How to upgrade your stadium' part of this guide for more info on managing your ground.
Top Eleven 2017 Tips: How to get the best possible formation
When it comes to formation, common sense plays a large part.
Naturally, if you play someone out of position then their performance will not be as strong. The ‘Roles’ column shows you the different positions each player is happy to be placed in. A lot of players have a couple of preferred positions, which adds some flexibility to your squad. If you try to reposition a player and a yellow exclamation mark pops up next to their icon, that means they’re playing out of position and your overall performance will suffer.
Want to swap out one of your first eleven for someone sat on your bench? Simply drag and drop one player onto the other and they’ll be switched over.
If you want your players to push forwards in a match or alternatively hang back, for a more attacking or defensive structure, then tap their icons on the pitch view. You’ll notice an arrow appears behind them. Tap once for an attacking role, twice for a defensive role and three times to clear it and return to normal.
Top Eleven 2017 Tips: How to select set piece takers and your team captain
Head to the Squad section of the Top Eleven 2017 menu and then poke the green arrow at the bottom right corner of the window. This option allows you to select your penalty and set piece takers, as well as backups in case your first choices are injured (or you end up in a penalty shootout).
Obviously you’ll want to pick the best players for each role, to maximise your chance of scoring. For instance, attacking midfielders are your best option when it comes to free kicks. Obviously you should choose someone who prefers playing on the left to take set pieces on that side, and vice versa for the right.
You can also choose your team captain in this menu. We’d recommend choosing a player based on their overall star rating, as they will be more experienced and therefore have the greatest effect on your team's performance. Of course, remember to select a few different players in order, in case your chosen captain is injured, subbed or sent off.
Top Eleven 2017 Tips: How to prep for a match
In Top Eleven 2017's Home menu, you should see the ‘Preparation level’ for your team's next match. This should ideally be at Superb before your game kicks off. if you're not already there, tap the 'i' icon beside the status to see what could be done to boost your level.
Your squad may not be rested enough, for instance, in which case you can either instantly refresh them (providing you have enough Rests left). If that's not the case, you can simply sub in some fresh players.
Morale is also a key factor when it comes to player performance, so don't ignore this stat. If morale is running low, try offering affected players a bonus - it's a great way to keep them motivated, as long as you have some spare cash. Ahh, footballers. Such a fickle lot.
We'd recommend training your squad well in advance of a match too, as your players gain condition points over time - which makes them fresher and ready for the game. To see how long you have to wait, just head to the Training section of the Top Eleven 2017 menu and then tap on the Physio Center.
Make sure you run your squad through three full training sessions before each match, for maximum payback. Check out the 'Training tips' section for more info.
Top Eleven 2017 Tips: How to change your tactics to win each match
Head to the Squad menu option and then flick your finger left across the screen to see your squad's current tactics. This allows you to switch between attack and defense options, or issue specific commands for every match, such as which flank to concentrate your attacks on.
Make sure you scout out your opponents before each match, to work out their individual strengths and weaknesses. You should then adjust your tactics accordingly.
In Top Eleven 2017's Home menu, you’ll find an overview of your upcoming match. Tap ‘Match Preview’ and then tap on your opponent’s badge and you’ll see a full overview of the team. Just tap the ‘Squad’ panel to see the star ratings of each of their players, as well as their usual formation.
If the left side of your opponent's team is defensively weaker than the right side, then concentrate your attacks down that flank. If they’re very aggressive, then try playing defensively and catching them on the counter-attack instead. It's all about being flexible, and changing your game plan for each match will give you a much greater chance of victory.
If you are playing against a weaker opponent, you should go with an offensive tactic from the start and try scoring early. This will put them under even more pressure, and hopefully avoid that nightmare scenario where they score and then shut up shop.
If you have a big match ahead, you might want to try "High pressing style" and "Man to man marking", which will give you a big advantage in defence. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that this tactic will burn out your players more quickly, so you'll need a strong bench to replace your knackered stars before the end.
Top Eleven 2017 Tips: General match tips and tricks
Keep an eye on your squad’s condition throughout each match. If players start the game with their condition at 90 percent or lower, they’ll probably tire before the end and need subbing out. If you see a player’s condition bar turn orange, it’s probably a good idea to sub them as soon as possible so they don't risk an injury.
You can also check your squad ratings during a match, and if you see that any of your players are performing poorly (their score has dropped below six), you should consider taking them out come the second half and replacing them with another player. Don't ditch them immediately, as ratings can go up as well as down.
To substitute players, flick left to head back to the squad page and then drag and drop a suitable sub onto the tired player.
If you’re still struggling in a match despite following these tactics, you can switch up your game plan mid-match. Just swipe left twice and try something different.
For instance, it’s a good idea to try an attacking mentality if a match is at a bitter stalemate.
If you're losing, you'll have more chance to get back into the match by setting an offensive formation - but, on the other hand, this could leave you more vulnerable from opponent's counter attacks. And when you are in the lead, a good tactic is to play with more possession and a less attacking formation. This gives your opponents less chance to nab the ball and attack, or catch you on the break.
If you're still battling to get a result and need some extra advice, tap the button with the rotating icons at the top of the screeen. This is kind of like a Top Eleven 2017 cheat feature - your coach will whisper in your ear what you should do in order to stand a better chance of winning.
Top Eleven 2017 Tips: How to get the best training regime
You'll want to run your team through three separate training sessions before each match, to get them focused. Each session consists of three different kinds of activity, which you can select from your currently unlocked choices.
Picking a good combination of activities and placing them in a smart order will help you to maximise the training benefits. This part admittedly involves a fair bit of trial and error, but Top Eleven 2017 at least tells you at the end of each training session how good your combination is. In this way, you can adjust and try different combos.
Personally, we've found that a warm-up followed by fast counter-attacks and a passing activity usually results in strong praise.
Bear in mind that some training activities are better suited to certain players. For instance, there's no point in involving your goalkeeper in an attacking session, nor should you train your strikers to be better between the posts. That's just a waste of time and resources, and wears out players for little to no benefit. Thankfully you can pick specific zones of players for each training session, so do so if you don't want to focus on individual training.
The more you train, the higher your training level will soar. And with every level that you gain, you will unlock fresh activities. Identified any key weaknesses in your squad, like a leaky goalie or a lack of goals? Try tailoring your sessions around these weaknesses to improve your overall performance.
Top Eleven 2017 Tips: How to upgrade your stadium
Head to Top Eleven 2017's Ground menu and you can build new facilities and improve your stadium. Note that you can only build one structure at a time, however, so we recommend building a training facility immediately, followed by medical to help out with any injuries you pick up (and we found we picked up an awful lot to begin with). With that done, get some extra parking so your fans can easily come and watch you play - which means more cash.
If you zoom into your ground, you can upgrade the facilities there too. You’ll want to put in extra seats when you eventually hit capacity, while a pitch upgrade helps to reduce any chance of injuries - definitely worth it once you have the funds to spare. When you have loads of cash stored up and your club is rising through the leagues, you’ll want to tap the ‘Stadium’ tool. This allows you to upgrade to a bigger, better arena - and don't worry if you've already performed loads of upgrades, as that knocks off some serious time.
The Top Eleven 2017 devs recommend investing in your Youth academy as soon as possible, as this gives you a chance to add some excellent new players to your team without those costly transfer fees. You can even sell these players for a big profit if you find yourself in desperate need of cash further down the line.
Top Eleven 2017 Tips: How to manage your finances and make loads of money
Head to the 'Finances' section and you'll see an overview of how much cash you have available, with your income and expenses clearly broken down. One easy way to boost your cash reserves is to sign up for decent TV rights/sponsorship deals.
Flick left once and you'll find the TV rights deals. The standard deal with Nordeus gives you a token per day, but if you're planning on playing every day you'll earn more tokens with the OH2 deal to start with.
Flick left again and you'll find the sponsorship tab, which allows you to choose a deal to take. Your best bet near the start of the game is the Nordeus deal, a 600k season-long contract that gives you lots of cash to spend on instant transfers. Nice.
Flick one more time and you can set the ticket price for each type of match. Beware of hiking prices in times of need, however, as you'll drive away the fans. You're best off keeping the price relatively low until you hit capactity in your stadium - but don't push prices too low as you'll lose out on essential cash.
Top Eleven 2017 Tips: How to rule the transfer market
With transfers, you never know how many rounds of an auction there will be. If there aren't many people interested in the auction during the initial round, you might have a good chance to grab a player for a small amount of tokens.
Sometimes, it is worth buying a good scout if you really need a good player in a specific position (if he will be a top scorer or top assistant in the league, you will not regret spending tokens in this way). Sometimes a good direct offer for a player you like can be a good way of getting a perfect new player for your squad.
Managers get more money by selling players on auctions, but if you need some cash immediately, you might want to sell your players to a football agent. This will give you less money for your players, but you’ll receive the money instantly.
