The people have spoken: Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones are the best of the best smartphones out on the market today. The Android handsets beat Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus and LG’s G6 in the latest consumer ratings report.
On Wednesday, a new Consumer Reports smartphone ratings review was published, revealing that more U.S. consumers regard the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ as the superior phones in the industry. Both devices actually got 82 points — the highest ever tallied for the report. The scores secured them the first two slots in the consumer ratings report, as per The Investor.
Samsung’s Galaxy S7 Edge, which was released in March 2016, impressively accumulated 77 points. This helped the device secure the third spot in the list. Consumer Reports indicated in the review that Samsung’s phones excelled in almost everything thanks to their top-notch cameras, outstanding displays and long-lasting batteries. These helped them won the favor of more consumers.
On the other hand, SamMobile reported that what made Samsung’s flagship handsets stand out in the review is the fact that they offer impressive internals for a “somewhat modest fee.” The news site even indicated that the phones are “competitively priced.”
Consumer Reports writer Jerry Beilinson said, “If you want a stunning camera, long battery life and gorgeous display in a water-resistant package, (the S8 or S8+) could be the right phone for you.” Beilinson also applauded the latest flagships from the South Korea giant for having minimalist, elegant and modern design. He also complimented the Infinity Display that made it possible for the phones to offer large screen estate without resorting to bumping up the dimensions of the hardware.
Despite the good things the devices can offer, Beilinson did not forget to single out the awkwardly placed fingerprint scanner on the back of the handsets. “(The fingerprint scanner) is right next to the rear camera, and we found ourselves repeatedly poking around to locate it and smudging the camera lens in the process,” Beilinson said.
Meanwhile, LG’s G6 and Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus landed the fourth and fifth spots in the consumer ratings report after garnering 77 points each, according to The Korea Herald. This is a huge slap to LG’s flagship, which was released less than a month prior to the Galaxy S8, and not so much to the Cupertino giant’s phablet that was launched in September of last year.
It’s isn’t surprising why the Galaxy S8 topped the report though. The device has the makings of being the ultimate flagship phone for this year. It features a stunning 5.8-inch Infinity Display, a powerful Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, a 12-megapixel back camera and a decent 3,000mAh battery. Its bigger brother, the Galaxy S8+, offers the same internals and specs save for its larger 3,500mAh battery.
