There’s some Christmas cheer for those of you waiting for news of the Samsung Galaxy S7 – Samsung’s flagship phone for 2016 is expected to arrive at the end of February and we’ve had a couple of fresh leaks about the handset appear over the weekend.
First of all we have pictures purporting to show the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Plus in cases (shown above), courtesy of GizmoChina. The shots show a rectangular home button and raised rear camera sensor, and they’re pretty close to renderings we’ve seen previously.
Apart from those changes it doesn’t look like Samsung has messed with the design formula much from the Galaxy S6 range. The rumours are we’ll be getting the plain S7, the S7 Edge, and then a larger Plus variant of each (so four models in total).
The eyes have it
Another Samsung whisper doing the rounds is that these handsets are going to feature an iris scanner so you’ll only have to look at your phone to unlock it. It’s not the first time we’ve seen this kind of technology and it would make sense for Samsung to want to be ahead of the curve.
That said the rumour comes from a little-known Polish Android website so don’t bet your house on it yet. Apparently the price of the Galaxy S7 is going to be significantly higher than that of the Galaxy S6 too – but we’ll have to wait and see.
It looks very likely that the Samsung Galaxy S7 will be launched before this year’s Mobile World Congress, which starts on 22 February. We’ve heard rumours of a 4K display, liquid cooling and the next-generation Snapdragon 820, so this should be a set of phones worth watching out for.
