Nintendo Switch: How To Use Settings Remotely With New Parental Control App

The Nintendo Switch, revealed Thursday, will help parents who want to limit the time their kids spend on video games with a new parental control app.

The highly-anticipated gaming console, priced at $299.99, will come with the free app: Nintendo Switch Parental Controls.

The app, available for iOS and Android, will let parents monitor their child’s game play remotely. Parents will be able to program settings like time limits, sleep mode schedules and communication preferences without having to be near the console.

In a cute video, Nintendo explained the features on the app. Here is what it offers:

How Long Your Child Can Play

The app allows parents set play time preferences on the Nintendo Switch, ranging from 15 minutes to hours. When the time is up, the console notifies the player on the upper left hand corner of the screen. If the child disregards the play limit time, a notification will arise on the same spot telling the player the amount of time gone over the limit.

Through the app, parents can see if kids aren’t following the set time limit and can then suspend the console remotely.

Parents can also set different play time limits for every day of the week, such as shorter time frames on school nights and longer ones during the weekend.

Which Games Your Child Can Play

The app also lets parents see what games their child is playing, “so there’s no need to peek over any shoulders,” Nintendo says. Parents will get a report that shows how much time their child has been playing which games.

The app also lets parents set other controls, like game restriction levels, social media connection and sharing and online communication.
