‘Mass Effect: Andromeda’ Ryder Will Have A Default Name, PS4 Trophies Teased By BioWare
“Mass Effect: Andromeda’s” devs at BioWare continue to tease aspects of their unreleased game. In recent tweets, hints were dropped about Ryder’s name and PS4 trophy support.
Beginning with our protagonist, Ryder will apparently have a default male and female first name just like Shepard did in the previous “Mass Effect” trilogy. When asked if there are lead character name defaults, BioWare creative director Mac Walters said “yes, and you will be able to change them as per the trilogy.” In other words, those that don’t like Ryder’s chosen first name can make it whatever they want. It’s also hinted that those details may be made public this fall.
In prior games, Shepard was often called John. However, he was never discussed by other characters on that basis. Seeing as the trilogy is mentioned in the source tweet, it will probably work the same way in “Mass Effect: Andromeda.”
Of course, something that will be totally new for the sake of the current-gen experience are variations in achievement and trophy support. Not much was said on the matter in specific, but studio senior designer Justin Perez casually joked that “I just copy and pasted the ‘FIFA’ achievements and wrote in ‘space’ at the end of all of them.” On a more serious note, Ian Frazier added that he’s “now reviewing @thejustinperez’s proposed list of Achievements/Trophies for ‘MEA.’” “Excited to see players earn some of these,” he teased with a smiley face emoticon.
“Mass Effect: Andromeda” was last shown to the public at this month’s PlayStation Meeting in New York, and development on the game seems to be moving rather quickly. Last week, our colleagues at iDigitalTimes pointed out tweets that confirm work was being done on the title’s romance features. If trophies are being polished today, that would suggest the game is somewhere near completion. Following what was essentially an E3 2016 no-show, speculation mounted that “Andromeda” may not hit its scheduled Q1 2017 release date. This new evidence may be a ray of hope to refute those fears.
“Mass Effect: Andromeda” is in development for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
