DeadBeeF (Lightweight Music Player) Brings A Big List Of Changes

Install DeadBeeF Music Player on Ubuntu, via PPA. Install DeadBeeF on Ubuntu 15.10, Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 14.10 Systems. DeadBeef lightweight music player is written in C and C++ to work with the display server.


DeadBeeF music player supports various audio file formats, including .cue and .m3u files. The music player can play Internet radio or mp3 files over http or ftp. It is a lightweight music player and hence used low memory and CPU resources. The software has high quality sampling and a 18-band equalizer with presets.

DeadBeeF, is the latest version of the DeadBeeF Music Player. DeadBeeF has been released with the following changes:

  • disabled bogus shift-jis detection, which was overriding cp1252

  • fixed FLAC metadata field mapping

Install DeadBeeF on Ubuntu


Run the following commands to install DeadBeeF on Ubuntu Systems, via PPA:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:starws-box/deadbeef-player
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install deadbeef

Once installed, open the DeadBeeF music player from Ubuntu Dash.


If you wish to uninstall and remove DeadBeeF from Ubuntu, run the command given below:

$ sudo apt-get remove deadbeef
